“In a past life” Olena Volodymyrivna is a mathematics teacher at a cozy lyceum in a village in Volyn. Now she is the class teacher of the 8th grade of the Ukrainian school in Wroclaw. She aches for every child in the class. She tries to support everyone, to find a good word, to support.

Olena Volodymyrivna herself is also a mother. Her Lyubomir studies in the seventh grade of the same school, and the twins Vasylinka and Polinka study in the third.

“On March 7, our father died near Kyiv. His last message: “I am standing for the children. Who but me?”…”

Lyubomyr experiences the loss and separation from home the hardest. He happened to see a photo in which dad is unrecognizable. Closed in himself. Before the war, the boy dreamed of becoming a programmer, and now – a soldier: like his father, he is a mad patriot.

The girls dream that their mother, grandmother, and cat, who stayed with their grandmother in Volyn, were alive. All together — for world peace.

“It is difficult to describe the pain of loss. I can’t believe it. Nightmare. The only consolation for all of us is school. You come in the morning, and you seem to forget about your troubles. Lessons, children — support everyone. It is difficult for everyone and maybe even more difficult for someone. Sometimes we cry already at home, when, as my husband used to say, “you start to feel sorry for yourself“.

Ukrainian school is life “in Ukraine” for one and a half thousand families. It’s a life that goes on no matter what. It is the feeling that we have lost a part of ourselves, but not ourselves. Faith that we will never lose! And we will return it completely!
